An original oil painting on canvas by Anne Harkness. This diptych is the first of a new series. One canvas is black and white; the other is color. Something from the black and white world has turned into color and is leading the viewer into the like. The suggestion here is that going into the mountains can do that for you. It's always a good season when we get to travel out of the black and white. I tried to keep the values in the whole painting the same so if looked at in all black and white or through a red film it would read as a consistent value from one canvas to the other, regardless of color. The exciting thing about this painting for me was seeing if I could translate one image into both color and black and white and have it work together as one fluid painting.
