An original oil painting on canvas by Anne Harkness. I painted NYC Live based on the 1880's painting, On the Boulevard by Jean Beraud. I found so many correlations between the two. They both have overlapping intricate space, people overlapping people and buildings. There are paintings within paintings in both paintings and multiple things going on amongst the figures in both. Each painting has it's own color theory. On the Boulevard shows high society whereas NYC Live shows high pop culture. Beraud shows light from the store windows reflecting on the wet pavement making vertical bands of light and I show an artistic method of vertical and horizontal bands that slice through my painting altering the colors behind them. There is intricate lettering and a glow of interior light in both paintings.
