An original oil painting on canvas by Anne Harkness. NYC, though a hurdle to get used to upon arrival, became a place I loved pretty quickly. Hope you get a sense of that love when viewing this painting. It is a double exposure, yes, but that seemed to play into the whole, "what NYC does to you", kind of thing. It's bigger than life, so overflowing with vitality day and night. It's coming at you, full on, all the time. Maybe it's the passion one has to possess to be able to live there. It's gritty, hard, brusk, and purposeful. I arrived there with a southern accent at age 23, newly engaged, but looking 16. One NY friend said you sort of look like you arrived barefoot and with hookworm. Some friend have a way with words... Well, I learned to hold my own, as New Yorkers do. I needed a large dose of "hold your ground" and I got it. Best news was that God came with me, I needed Him too. Still have both.
