Local butter
Local Butter is a painting of the General Store in Terrell, NC. For those who traveled Highway 150 when it was a two lane road, a visit could grant you the opportunity to purchase an orange soda, penny candy from the barrel and some country relic. It was lazy and laid back, with a wooden front porch, an American flag and fishing bait for sale. There was always a gentle greeting, a smile and a dog or two lying around, and you were always welcome.
I photograph what I like, while on my way somewhere else. Once I paint it, time moves on and I become an historian, not meaning to, mind you, it just happens. The world changes, a curvy old road becomes a new straight four lane highway. A cozy bungalow becomes an apartment complex. A small man-made dock crowded with boats on a wooded plot becomes the vast seamless lawn of a mega mansion with jet skis and wakeboard boats. The world changes, like it or not.
